Plated silver or “silvered copper, by perfect adhesion…” was produced in France at the Hôtel de Fère in 1770 by the silversmith Jean Vincent Huguet, then by Thugot and Daumy at the Hôtel de Pomponne. Silvered pieces are stamped with the silversmith’s mark and a second mark indicating the silver proportion. On this piece, the only mark stamped is the mark indicating the silver proportion on the liner.
