After Jean Auguste Dominique INGRES (1780-1867)
Napoléon Bonaparte, 1st Consul
Miniature on ivory, bearing signature on lower right
Ingres realized this portrait of Bonaparte in 1804, after a work painted two years prior by Gros. The Consul actually did not agree to this portrait sitting by the young artist who was 23 years old at the time. The portrait is in the Curtius Museum collections of Liège, Belgium.
