Oberon, King of the Elves, and his wife Titania, Queen of the Fairies, argue over the custody of a young page named Titania. Jealous, Oberon sends Puck to fetch an enchanted flower to chasten her entourage. The Queen of the Fairies is prey and fells immediately in love with the overweight weaver Bottom, who Puck transformed into a donkey. This porcelain subject represented Act IV, scene 1, when Bottom cherished by the Queen and the Fairies sleeps in Titania’s arms.
